Someone once said that life is a journey to be enjoyed, not a road to be endured. We at Explorer Systems enjoy the road we travel within the museum environment. We strive to provide the best possible service and enable our clients to work efficiently, serve the communities in which they live, and help them grow. We accomplish this by listening to their needs, visiting their sites and communities, and supporting their endeavors. "Life is a gift, live it to the fullest!" This is our way of helping the clients of Explorer Systems live theirs.
Explorer Systems Inc. Is the oldest continuously run software company in the United States that provides an integrated software package designed for and used exclusively by museums and not-for-profit organizations such as aquariums and zoos. These facilities routinely have planetariums, IMAX Theaters, and other open-seating, timed events.
The Explorer software was originally written 1980 for the Museum of Science in Boston, to their specification, by the company known then as Explorer Technology. The software was written on a VMS platform using the COBOL programming language.
The current owners of Explorer Systems, Inc. acquired the company in 1990 with the intention providing a stable and powerful environment for all clients by offering excellent support and custom programming services.
At the request of its clients, Explorer Systems rewrote the software use in the popular Windows environment and began offering the windows version in early 2001. ESI invited clients to a series of focus group meetings to provide specifications for the rewrite. These specifications included or excluded items the clients felt would enable Explorer to better meet the museum industry's needs. The system is currently being used and installed throughout the United States, with enhancements being continuously added.
Explorer Systems continues to provide long term stability for its clients and looks forward to continued growth and stability in the coming years. We are continuously adding new features to the system and providing new versions to all clients as part of their support agreements.
The long term goals of Explorer Systems, Inc. are to: provide excellent support service; offer stable software; keep our software affordable to all museums; and listen to our clients' needs. Explorer Systems, Inc., began because a museum needed our services, and we continue to provide those services with dedication and commitment.
